A

Yesterday, I was walking past some lavender colored lilacs(淡紫色丁香) growing alongside the sidewalk on the way to catch a ride with my neighbor who was joining me for a community dinner gathering. The quiet and soft movement of the little flowers as they danced in the breeze just make me pause for a moment.  I looked at them moving gently from one side to another in the breeze as if they were alive and happy. I was thinking about what it would be like to make another human being alive and happy like those lilacs.
It was Mother's Day, and I live many continents away from my mother. I thought about my neighbor, who is a mother too. As a matter of fact, she was a mother of two children.  I hurriedly went back home with my new idea unfolding in my mind. I looked through my yellow pages quickly, located the nearest flower sellers, and made sure that they had fresh flowers to sell with which I was able to add love and a bright feel to warm a mother's heart.
Collecting a bouquet of sunshine yellow daffodils(水仙花),I opened the door of my neighbor, the door of a mother, the door of someone who smiled and hugged me and held my hand tightly with great joy. Such a short moment of exchange in a doorway made a mother dance with life and I have to thank the little lilacs for that moment!
21. The view of the lilacs made the author_______.
A. want to delight someone
B. want to dance like the lilacs
C. think of her own loneliness
D. miss her parents in a faraway place
22. What do the underlined word “new idea” in the Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Collecting flowers for her mother living away.
B. Leaving the gathering in advance and hurrying home.
C. Saying thanks to the neighbor for the ride.
D. Giving the neighbor flowers as a present for Mother’s Day.
23. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Love goes beyond border
B. Love the flower, love the branch
C. Lilac-produced idea bring warmth
D. Memories brought back by lilacs

I was thinking about what it would be like to make another human being alive and happy like those lilacs.

It was Mother's Day, and I live many continents away from my mother. I thought about my neighbor, who is a mother too. As a matter of fact, she was a mother of two children. I looked through my yellow pages quickly, located the nearest flower sellers, and made sure that they had fresh flowers to sell with which I was able to add love and a bright feel to warm a mother's heart.

I was thinking about what it would be like to make another human being alive and happy like those lilacs以及最后一段最后一句话Such a short moment of exchange in a doorway made a mother dance with life and I have to thank the little lilacs for that moment!

B

People in the US have a special camp to go to this summer. Those who are tired of the social media and want to unplug(不插电) for a couple of days can consider going to a fast-growing summer camp three hours outside of San Francisco.
Checking into the camp involves handing over your personal electronics to volunteers in white lab coats. Camp Grounded now in its second year, offers attendees a break from the constant noise of social media severely fighting for their attention.
The rules of this camp are clear: No shop talk, no alcohol, and most importantly, no phones, computers, tablets or watches.
Co-founder Levi Felix has stressed it is not just an experience for tech workers, although current and former Silicon Valley(硅谷) employees make up the biggest part of the attendees. This year, campers ranged from college graduates to retirees.
In recent years, the “unplugging movement” has been gathering steam, although it has been criticized by the press for causing “postmodern techno-anxiety” and failing to recognize the positive impacts of technology. Each March, thousands of people unplug from their devices for 24 hours, as part of an event organized by the nonprofit organization Reboot.
Tech-free getaway options like Camp Grounded are growing in the US, reported NPR. Hotels like the Lake Placid Lodge in New York and Hotel Monaco Chicago are offering digital detox or “black-out” services. The “Check-In to Check-Out” package at the Lake Placid Lodge invites guests to leave their electronic devices at the front desk to enjoy the peace and calm of their environment.

24. Where can you go to Camp Grounded?
A.Near San Francisco
B.Near New York
C.Near Chicago
D.Anywhere in the US
25. Who is most likely to attend the camp this year according to the passage?
A.Guests to the hotels
B.Volunteers in white lab coats
C.Employees from Silicon Valley
D.People from all walks of life
26. The purpose for those to attend the camp is  ?
A.to live a totally simple life
B.to be free from modern tech occasionally
C.to escape from the modern society completely
D.to totally break away from the noise of social media
27. What’s the media’s attitude toward the “unplugging movement”?
A   Negative       B Unclear        C Indifferent      D Objective

24. 【细节题】答案:A 分析:提干关键词为camp grounded的地点,定位到原文第一段最后一句,summer camp three hours outside of San Francisco,选项A是原文同义替换。
Those who are tired of the social media and want to unplug(不插电) for a couple of days can consider going to a fast-growing summer camp three hours outside of San Francisco。
Camp Grounded now in its second year, offers attendees a break from the constant noise of social mediaseverely fighting for their attention.
27. 【主旨题】答案:A 分析:关键是问media’s attitude ,从文章倒数第二段第一句话although it has been criticized by the press for causing “postmodern techno-anxiety” and failing to recognize the positive impacts of technology 可以得出答案。

C

The spread of Western eating habits around the world is bad for human health and for the environment. Those findings come from a new report in the journal Nature.
There are ways to solve this diet-health-environment problem. But they will require a change in eating habits. And what we eat can be a product of culture, personal taste, price and ease.
David Tilman is a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota. In the study, he examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how diet affected health. Mr. Tilman noted a movement beginning in the 1960s. He found that as nations industrialized, population increased and earnings rose. More people began to adopt what has been called the Western diet.
The Western diet is high in refined, or processed, sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter -- and sicker. "The excess, let us say, in the 15 richest nations of the world, right now is on the order of about 400 or 500 extra calories a day that are eaten beyond what people need, and that lead people to gain weight." David Tillman says overweight people are at greater risk for non-infectious diseases like diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. "Unfortunately when people become industrialized, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these same health impacts, and in some cases if you are Asian, you have them more severely ."
And, a diet bad for human beings, it seems, is also bad for the environment. As the world's population grows, experts say more forests and tropical areas will become farmland for crops or grasslands for grazing cattle. These areas will be needed to meet the increasing demand for food.
"We are likely to have more greenhouse gas released in the future from agriculture because of this dietary shift than all the greenhouse gas that right now comes out of all forms of transportation. "
Mr. Tilman calls the link between diet, the environment and human health, "a trilemma." He says one possible solution is leaving the Western diet behind.

  1. Which of the following statements is Not True according to the report?

A. Different culture may cause different eating habits.
B. Population increase is likely to lead some people to accept the Western diet.
C. Western foods will probably make more people overweight.
D. The Western diet is unhealthy because it is high in vitamins and proteins.

  1. What can we learn from the report?

A. The western diet does less harm to the health of Asians.
B. More greenhouse gas has been given off from agriculture.
C. Western eating habits are responsible for some diseases like cancer.
D. Nearly all people in developed countries consume more calories than needed.

  1. The underlined word “ trilemma” in the last paragraph means __________.

A. a relation to be maintained.
B. an opinion causing an argument.
C. a decision to be made.
D. a problem offering a difficult choice

  1. What does this report mainly tell us?

A. What people eat does influence their health.
B. Our change in diet will lead to global climate warming.
C. The Western diet is bad for environment as well as for human beings.
D. Industrialization considerably shortens the lifespan of the world people.

29.C.推理判断题,根据第四段最后一句if you are Asian, you have them more severely . In the study, he examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how diet affected health. The excess, let us say, in the 15 richest nations of the world, right now is on the order of about 400 or 500 extra calories a day that are eaten beyond what people need... David Tillman says overweight people are at greater risk for non-infectious diseases like diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.

D

In recent years many countries have been faced with the problem of how to make their workers more productive. Some experts claim the answer is to make jobs more varied. But do more varied jobs lead to greater productivity? There is evidence to suggest that while variety certainly makes the worker's life more enjoyable, it does not actually make him work harder. As far as increasing productivity is concerned, then, variety is not an important factor.

Other experts feel that giving the worker freedom to do his job in his own way is important. The problem is that this kind of freedom cannot easily be given in the modem factory with its complicated machinery .Thus, while freedom of choice may be important, there is usually very little that can be done to create it.

Another important consideration is how much a worker contributes to the product he is making. In most factories the worker sees only one small part of the product. Some car factories are now experimenting with having many small production lines so that each worker contributes more to the production of the cars on his line. It would seem that not only is degree of the worker's contribution an important factor, but it is also one we can do something about.

To what extent does more money lead to greater productivity? The workers themselves certainly think this is important. But perhaps they want more money only because the work they do is so boring. Money just lets them enjoy their spare time more. A similar argument may explain demands for shorter working hours. Perhaps if we succeed in making their jobs more interesting, they will neither want more money nor will shorter working hours be so important to them.

32.According to the author, what advantage do varied jobs bring?
A.They increase productivity enormously.
B.They reduce boredom among workers.
C.They bring out the best in workers.
D.They relive workers’ difficulties.
33.What can we clearly see from the passage?
A.It’s practical to allow more freedom in a modern factory.
B.It’s necessary to have a large number of workers.
C.It’s important to raise workers’ sense of contribution.
D.It’s difficult to have more production lines.
34.The passage seems to suggest that_______
A.more money leads to demands for shorter working hours
B.more money does not automatically create higher productivity
C.workers like more money better than more interesting jobs
D.workers expect to have both more money and more interesting jobs
35.What does the passage mainly discuss?
A.How to enrich workers’ life
B.How to make workers more productive
C.How to shorten working hours
D.How to decrease dullness in a factory

There is evidence to suggest that while variety certainly makes the worker's life more enjoyable......
33.C. It would seem that not only is degree of the worker's contribution an important factor, but it is also one we can do something about.选出。

How to overcome challenges in your life
We all face tough and difficult challenges in life. To overcome challenges you need to have that “never quit” attitude in life. If you develop it, you’ll overcome quite a bit.
Motivate yourself. Say “YES, I CAN”. The challenge should bring out the best of you in this situation. Slow it down, think that process though.      36       If you develop that mindset(心态), you’ll get it done.
Stay calm and cool headed. Remain calm when you’re facing serious troubles and problems in life.       37       Take a deep breath, relax, slow it down. Think things through calmly.
Let failure and fear fuel you in a positive way. Everyone fails at times. If you fail the first, second, or third time, don’t give up. Pick yourself up, and learn from why you’ve failed, and move on in positive direction.      38
Simplify the problem or challenge you’re facing. Break it down into steps, and work your way to the top of it. Work through each step of the process of overcoming this challenge. Make the challenge easier than it.      39      As you get through each step, you develop more belief you can get it done, then you will.
40      To overcome a challenge, you have to believe you can really do it. You have to find out all the ways you can overcome it, and put it to full use and effort. People overcome all kinds of challenges every day. I believe that challenges aren’t nearly as hard as presented most the time. Depends exactly what this challenge is. It’s our own mental stability that’s the difficult part. When you get into the mind frame of doing it mentally, you’ll actually be able to do it.

1.Think the best, not the worst.
2.Maintain a positive mind and confidence.
3.That starts by breaking it down into steps.
4.You can’t solve problems when you’re panic.
5.Learn what made you fail to overcome these challenges.
6.Most people will avoid any challenge, because they’re scared of failing.
7.Develop that confidence in saying there’s no way you’re going to fail at this.

36. 选G. 本题略难,由于G项中的 “that confidence”,指代前文提过的“YES, I CAN”,所以选择G项。

Yours,

Dear John,
It’s been a long time since we met last time. How is everything going recently? Have you learnt the Folding Book Lamp, one of the latest electronic products this year? I’ve got one online and to my astonishment, it is so excellent that I’ve to recommend it to you.
Superior to similar products, it has a beneficial impact on eyes, which can greatly prevent shortsightedness. In addition to being a lamp, it can also be functioned as an alarm clock. More importantly, not only can it save money but be friendly to environment. Practical as it is, ¥18 is enough to buy one. If you’d like to, three colors—yellow, red as well as blue are alternative.
I’ll be extremely delighted if you can consider my recommendation. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
